  5.         This  file describes the new features in recent  USBBSDOR  releases.
  6.  
  7.         Please refer to USBBSDOR.DOC for a basic description of USBBSDOR.

  11.         [ USBBSDOR 5.2 New Features 4/9/93 ] -------------------------------
  12.         --------------------------------------------------------------------
  13.         This version of USBBSDOR is a minor maintenance release.
  14.  
  15.         The enclosed MODEM text file (displayed when scanning for high speed
  16.         modem types) has been updated.  It now includes all of the new modem
  17.         designations recently added to the USBBS list.
  18.  
  19.         Added PKZIP 2.04+ support to the "(V)erify contents" function  which
  20.         appears in the protocol selections when downloading the USBBS list.
  21.  
  22.         A "minimum connect speed to download" parameter has been added. Many
  23.         BBS packages now include this capability, and this parameter  allows
  24.         USBBSDOR  to  use this same "protection" for downloading  the  USBBS
  25.         list. This parameter may be set on the USBBSDOR installation screen.
  26.  
  27.         All  of the display text files (menus, helps, etc.) in  USBDOR52.ZIP
  28.         have undergone some very minor cosmetic changes for a slightly  more
  29.         modern appearance. These are files in USBDOR52.ZIP which do not have
  30.         extensions on the file names.
  31.  
  32.         QSUSBBS.EXE, the enclosed off-line USBBS list search utility, should
  33.         now run properly when used in OS/2 DOS sessions.
  34.  
  35.         The  colors  used for displaying the list in QSUSBBS.EXE  have  been
  36.         changed, greatly improving both appearance and readability.

  40.         [ USBBSDOR 5.1 New Features 11/14/92 ] -----------------------------
  41.         --------------------------------------------------------------------
  42.         NEW COMMAND: (R)ead USBBS news.  Periodically, a "news" file will be 
  43.         distributed with the USBBS list called USBBSxxx.NWS (the xxx matches
  44.         the version number of the list).  If a USBBSxxx.NWS file is  located 
  45.         with  a corresponding USBBSxxx.LST, the (R)ead command will  display 
  46.         this  file.  The "news" file will be inserted  periodically  in  the 
  47.         USBBS list distribution file by the USBBS editor to highlight timely 
  48.         information about the USBBS list. 
  49.  
  50.         NEW COMMAND: (W)here to update\add to the list.  Each release of the 
  51.         USBBS list contains a file called USBBSxxx.TXT where xxx matches the 
  52.         version number of the list. This file lists the places where updates
  53.         can be made to the USBBS list, as well as USBBS distribution points.
  54.         If  a USBBSxxx.TXT is located with the  corresponding  USBBSxxx.LST, 
  55.         the (W)here command will display this file.
  56.  
  57.         NOTE on the above commands: If using USBBSDOR's  auto-new-extraction
  58.         feature (registration required),  when a new USBBS distribution file
  59.         is detected USBBSxxx.NWS and USBBSxxx.TXT will be extracted also.
  60.  
  61.         FOSSIL  driver support added.  If your BBS uses a FOSSIL driver  you 
  62.         may now have USBBSDOR use the FOSSIL driver also.  You may also take 
  63.         advantage  of this feature if your BBS software supports  Multi-port 
  64.         serial  cards and permits FOSSIL redirection to these cards  through 
  65.         the same driver used for the BBS software.  There is a new toggle on 
  66.         the  USBBSDOR local configuration screen to turn FOSSIL support  on. 
  67.         Please see USBBSDOR.DOC for additional information.
  68.  
  69.         ARJ  is now supported for downloading the USBBS list from  USBBSDOR. 
  70.         Due to the growing popularity of this compression utility,  USBBSDOR 
  71.         will now use USBBSxxx.ARJ files (if downloading is allowed). For the 
  72.         purpose  of downloading and "new list auto  extraction"  (registered 
  73.         feature), USBBSDOR always looks for ZIP files first, then ARJ if  no 
  74.         USBBSxxx.ZIP  files are found.  The off-line QSUSBBS search  utility 
  75.         may  now  also be downloaded from the door in ARJ  format  (same  as 
  76.         USBBSxxx,  the  door  looks  for  QSUSBBS.ZIP  first).   Please  see 
  77.         USBBSDOR.DOC for additional information.

  79.         The MENU file reflects the new (R)ead and (W)here commands, and also
  80.         compensates  for the change in length of USBBS list file names  when 
  81.         the version went from USBBS99 to USBBS100.

  83.         The HELP3 file reflects the new (R)ead and (W)here commands.

  85.         The AREA file reflects the new 909 area code in California.

  90.         [ USBBSDOR 5.0 New Features 7/6/92 ] -------------------------------
  91.         --------------------------------------------------------------------
  92.         As  of  this  release, USBBSDOR has been  updated  and  continuously 
  93.         supported for five years! (7/6/87 - 7/6/92)
  94.  
  95.         Added support for a change in the USBBS list which affects the (N)ew
  96.         command.  The USBBS list uses an asterisk * in column 58 to indicate 
  97.         a new or changed entry since the last list.  Effective 07-01-1992 an
  98.         ampersand  (@) will be used to indicate the new/changed  status  AND 
  99.         that  the system was called and verified by the USBBS  list  editor. 
  100.         USBBSDOR now looks for either character for the (N)ew command.
  101.  
  102.         Added support for extended IRQ use (above IRQ 7). Previous  versions 
  103.         of USBBSDOR provided non-standard COM support with IRQ 1 through  7. 
  104.         The  IRQ  value may now be 1 through 15 and may be set in  the  non-
  105.         standard  COM setup parameter located on the  USBBSDOR  installation 
  106.         screen.
  107.  
  108.         Added a new "listing separator line" choice. USBBSDOR now allows the 
  109.         Sysop to choose a double line (ASCII 205) to be used as a  separator 
  110.         for  each  listing as it is displayed.  This adds  to  the  previous 
  111.         choices of dashes (ASCII 45), a solid line (ASCII 196), or none.
  112.  
  113.         Added  support  for the very high security levels (65000+)  used  by 
  114.         some BBS packages. Previous versions of USBBSDOR did not allow these 
  115.         Sysops to set the (D)ownload security to these levels.
  116.  
  117.         Added support to calculate USBBS list download times for newer  (yet 
  118.         lesser used) connect rates such as 12000 (twelve-thousand).  Earlier
  119.         versions of USBBSDOR expected standard connect rates (300,1200,2400,
  120.         4800,9600,14400,19200) for calculating download times, and an  error 
  121.         would occur if a download was attempted under other circumstances.
  122.  
  123.         The  AREA, AREA2, and AREA3 area code help files have  been  updated 
  124.         with  changes since the last USBBSDOR release.  The new Georgia  706 
  125.         area  code  is  now  included as well as the  pending  (as  of  this 
  126.         writing) Texas 210 area code.
  127.  
  128.         While earlier versions of USBBSDOR were DESQview aware and  behaved, 
  129.         some performance degradation was discovered when using "virtualized"
  130.         screens  with DESQview-386.  USBBSDOR's performance is now  improved 
  131.         under these conditions.
  132.  
  133.         If  using PCBoard BBS software and logging to a printer,  USBBSDOR's 
  134.         printer routines have been made more generic.
  135.  
  136.         Three command line parameters have been added.  These are not likely 
  137.         to  be needed  by most Sysops, but if you need them, you REALLY need  
  138.         them.   Adding them to configuration file is not planned since  they 
  139.         should rarely be used:
  140.  
  141.         /NOBEEP  -  USBBSDOR follows the local alarm (beep) setting found in 
  142.         any  door information files which provide it. If you have  your  BBS 
  143.         software set to beep LOCALLY at caller input errors, etc. but you do  
  144.         not want USBBSDOR to beep at similar events, add this to the command
  145.         command line as shown below.
  146.  
  147.         /NOCALLER  -  USBBSDOR  writes appropriate entries  to  the  current 
  148.         node's caller file or activity log (PCBoard and Wildcat modes only). 
  149.         Please  see USBBSDOR.DOC for a complete list of entries.  If you  do 
  150.         not want USBBSDOR to echo these events to the log files, add this to  
  151.         the the USBBSDOR.EXE command line as shown below.
  152.  
  153.         /NOLPT  -  USBBSDOR  follows  the printer toggle in PCBoard.  If you 
  154.         do  not  want   USBBSDOR to also echo caller log  activity  to   the  
  155.         printer, add this to the USBBSDOR.EXE command line as shown below.
  156.  
  157.         To  add any of these toggles, edit the USBBSDOR door batch  file  as 
  158.         shown:
  159.  
  160.         USBBSDOR.EXE  USBBSDOR.CNF  D:\PCB\  /NOLPT /NOBEEP /NOCALLER
  161.  
  162.         All  three are shown in the example above for illustration  purposes 
  163.         only.  You  may enter one, two, or all three of them, in  any  order 
  164.         desired. Again, it is  recommended to use these toggles only if they 
  165.         are REALLY needed.
  166.

  169.         [ USBBSDOR 4.5 New Features 1/24/92 ] ------------------------------
  170.         --------------------------------------------------------------------
  171.         Faster loading!  Door batch files may now call USBBSDOR.EXE with the 
  172.         location  in-line,  without  having  to switch  drives  and  cd\  to 
  173.         directories. For example:
  174.         >  echo off
  175.         >  d:\usbbsdor\usbbsdor usbbsdor.cnf d:\pcb
  176.         >  board.bat (if needed)
  177.         The  above results in faster loading (and exit) time since the  door 
  178.         batch file does not have to move the default location around in DOS.
  179.         USBBSDOR will still work fine with the "old" method.
  180.  
  181.         Added  support for Non-DSZ DSZLOG compatible protocols.  USBBSDOR is
  182.         now more flexible when reading DSZLOG files from non-DSZ and non-GSZ
  183.         protocol logs for reporting successful and failed download attempts.
  184.  
  185.         A new parameter in PROTOCOL.DAT allows placement of USBBSDOR  status
  186.         line during transfers. For each protocol choice the Sysop may select
  187.         whether  to place the USBBSDOR status line at the Top or  Bottom  of 
  188.         the screen, depending on what works best with the protocol selected.
  189.         For instance, the DSZ protocol works best with the door status  line 
  190.         at the top of the screen, where its graphical counterpart GSZ  works
  191.         best with the door status line at the bottom of the screen.
  192.  
  193.         New Wildcat 3.x specific mode will update caller activity logs  with
  194.         downloads, etc. like the PCBoard specific  mode.  Requires  changing
  195.         the BBS type in USBBSDOR.CNF from #3 generic DOOR.SYS to  #4 WC 3.x.
  196.         The Wildcat 2.x CALLINFO.BBS file is no longer supported.
  197.  
  198.         SEND.BAT now accepts non-standard com port parameters from  USBBSDOR 
  199.         for use with DSZ or GSZ:
  200.           %5 = base address (hex) for com port (use with DSZ portx option).
  201.           %6 = IRQ for com port (use with DSZ portx option).
  202.         See USBBSDOR.DOC and SEND.BAT for details.
  203.  
  204.         QSUSBBS.EXE  will now utilize a "destructive" backspace at its input 
  205.         prompt.  The non-destructive backspace utilized in the first release 
  206.         could make input editing difficult.
  207.           
  208.         NOTE:  The rest of the version 4.5 enhancements below deal with  the 
  209.         display text files used by USBBSDOR: MENU, HELLO, HELP, AREA, STATE,
  210.         MODEM, and BRAND.
  211.  
  212.         Added  support for Wildcat 3.x color macros in text files.  USBBSDOR
  213.         will automatically use either PCBoard or Wildcat! color macros  when 
  214.         either  are found.  The display text files released in  USBDOR50.ZIP
  215.         use  PCBoard color macros.  Run USB-CONV.EXE to convert the enclosed
  216.         PCBoard color macro files to Wildcat macros (for editing purposes). 
  217.  
  218.         The  ANSI  text file handler has been greatly improved.  Sysops  not 
  219.         familiar with (or not wanting to use) the PCBoard or Wildcat!  color 
  220.         macro type files now have more flexibility with the plain Ascii  and 
  221.         ANSI  "two file" method.  Run USB-CONV.EXE to convert  the  enclosed
  222.         PCBoard macro files to Ascii\ANSI files (for editing purposes). 
  223.  
  224.         Previously,  some  Sysops experienced difficulty  when  editing  the 
  225.         multi-paged text files such as HELP and AREA. USBBSDOR now  supports 
  226.         the linking of files together, by specifying the "next" filename  in  
  227.         the  file currently being displayed.  This is done by  placing a "%"
  228.         (percent) in the LEFT-MOST (column #1) position on the last line  of 
  229.         the  current  file. The % must then IMMEDIATELY be followed  by  the 
  230.         file  you wish USBBSDOR to append, such as %HELP2.  This allows  the 
  231.         Sysop  to  edit each page easily and  separately,  especially  those 
  232.         wishing to use ANSI files.  See USBBSDOR.DOC for instructions.

  237.         [ USBBSDOR 4.4 New Features 11/1/91 ] ------------------------------
  238.         --------------------------------------------------------------------
  239.         New! QSUSBBS off-line USBBS list searcher and viewer. Small and very 
  240.         fast.  Can be used to search USBBS lists for area codes, states,  or 
  241.         any text. If USBBSDOR is registered, QSUSBBS.EXE can be personalized 
  242.         with  your  BBS  name and phone number.  This  personalization  will 
  243.         appear when QSUSBBS is started, displaying "This copy of QSUSBBS  is 
  244.         compliments of:" followed by your BBS name and phone number. This is 
  245.         a great advertisement for YOUR BBS, since QSUSBBS may be distributed 
  246.         separately (as outlined in the enclosed documentation).

  248.         If QSUSBBS.ZIP (containing QSUSBBS.EXE & QSUSBBS.DOC) is  installed,
  249.         USBBSDOR  will  allow the caller to choose between  downloading  the 
  250.         current USBBS list or QSUSBBS.
  251.  
  252.         Many brands of BBS software were recently added to that category  in 
  253.         the  USBBS  listings. The BRAND file enclosed reflects these.
  254.  
  255.  
  256.         --------------------------------------------------------------------
  257.         [ USBBSDOR 4.3 New Features 9/1/91 ] -------------------------------
  258.         --------------------------------------------------------------------
  259.         Added  support for the new area code format (area codes ending  with
  260.         a zero),  which the USBBS listings began supporting in the  09-01-91
  261.         release. Previous versions of USBBSDOR would report an invalid  area
  262.         code if these new area code formats (510, 310, 410) were entered.
  263.  
  264.         Added  support to use a solid line separating listings as  they  are
  265.         displayed.  The Sysop may now choose between no lines, solid  lines,
  266.         or a line of dashes to separate individual BBS listings.
  267.  
  268.         Support for extended node /X PCBoard software added.
  269.  
  270.         The help file for the area code prompt (AREA.HLP) has  been  updated
  271.         to contain the new area codes scheduled to be in operation soon.

  275.         [ USBBSDOR 4.2 New Features 7/6/91 ] -------------------------------

  277.         As  of  this  release, USBBSDOR has been  updated  and  continuously 
  278.         supported for four years! (7/6/87 - 7/6/91)
  279.  
  280.         (F)ast-search  command.  The Sysop may configure  the  (F)ast-search 
  281.         command  to  immediately display an Area code or State  without  any 
  282.         additional prompting of the caller.  The (F)ast-search configuration 
  283.         parameter is in the local setup screen (USBBSDOR /L). Simply enter a 
  284.         three digit area code, or a two digit state code (Sysop option).
  285.  
  286.         Non-standard  COM ports (3 - 8) may now be configured in  USBBSDOR's 
  287.         configuration file.  Previous versions of USBBSDOR read  PCBOARD.DAT 
  288.         (PCBoard),  CONFIGWC.BBS (Wildcat), or a Sysop specified environment 
  289.         variable for non-standard port base address and IRQ information. 
  290.  
  291.         Spitfire (SFDOORS.DAT) compatibility.
  292.           
  293.         Remote  Access  (DORINFO1.DEF) compatibility. Previous  versions  of 
  294.         USBBSDOR only supported the DORINFO1.DEF file created by RBBS.
  295.  
  296.         On PCBoard systems, the caller may enter search information from the 
  297.         PCBoard main prompt. For instance, the caller may enter USBBS 813 to
  298.         immediately search the list for area code 813, then exit USBBSDOR. 
  299.  
  300.         @F@ = (F)ast-search text file macro. This is replaced in text  files 
  301.         with the specified information from the (F)ast-search parameter.
  302.  
  303.         The  (O)perator page command was removed in this release  due to the 
  304.         lack of "page" information in most BBS door information files.

  308.         [ USBBSDOR 4.1 New Features 4/26/91 ] ------------------------------

  310.         The  Sysop may specify whether to place a horizontal line of  dashes 
  311.         between each listing when it is displayed.

  313.         USBBSDOR becomes FULLY automated!  When you place a new  USBBSxx.ZIP 
  314.         in  the location specified in the USBBSDOR  configuration,  USBBSDOR 
  315.         will detect the newer USBBSxx.LST *INSIDE* and automatically extract 
  316.         it to the appropriate location!! (Available only when registered).

  318.         Added non-standard com support.
  319.  
  320.         The  local maintenance and installation mode is now  DESQview  aware 
  321.         and  "well behaved".  Previously, just the 'door mode'  was DESQview 
  322.         aware.

  324.         Pressing ? is now valid and is the same as pressing H for help.

  332.         Version 4.0 was a major re-write of USBBSDOR.
  333.  
  334.         USBBSDOR is completely automatic with regard to updating the monthly 
  335.         USBBS  list.  The Sysop simply places the new list  in  a  specified 
  336.         location,  and USBBSDOR uses it! (same for the download ZIP file  if 
  337.         downloading is enabled). 
  338.         
  339.         List conversion is no longer necessary.
  340.         
  341.         The information files (still called USBBS.SYM and USBBS.INF) are now
  342.         created  automatically if they don't exist,  and are re-created when 
  343.         the Sysop installs a new USBBS list.
  344.         
  345.         The list is now colorized on the fly if the caller is in color mode.
  346.  
  347.         The list can be searched by 9600 baud modem brand, BBS brand, and
  348.         New and/or changed listings. 
  349.         
  350.         Help  files containing Area Code and State abbreviation  charts  are
  351.         available at the area code and state input prompts.
  352.  
  353.         USBBSDOR is now DESQview "aware and well behaved".
